Taking control of your health

While there is a lot of fear about our health right now. Calm that fear! You can absolutely take comfort in taking control over your health in ways your mama probably taught you growing up and maybe some new ones you can try.

-Eat your fruits and veggies So obvious, I know! I also we often need to hear it again 🙂 One of the best ways to stay healthy is to eat well. We all know the importance of fruits and veggies but now more than ever getting the right nutrients is vital to your health. With kids I find it helpful to give them options. When I let them have input they seem to eat more and resist less. If it feel daunting eating a variety of fruits and veggies put them in a smoothie or juice, just be sure to check labels for when buying pre made drinks to avoid excessive amounts of sugar.

-Wash your hands

Kids don’t always listen when parents tell them to wash their hands before eating, after using the bathroom, or when they come inside from playing. But it’s a message worth repeating — hand washing is by far the best way to keep kids from getting sick and prevent the spread of germs. When kids come into contact with germs, they can become infected just by touching their eyes, nose, or mouth. And once they’re infected, it’s usually just a matter of time before the whole family comes down with the same illness. Challenge your kids to sing the birthday song while washing, or create a new one, as long at it is at least 20 seconds go with it!

-Visualize yourself squashing your fears
Fear can be a tricky thing, and although it is real you can certainly control it with your mind. I tend to worry about my children’s health SO MUCH. When I find myself obsessing over it I step back and try to rationalize what I can do with those fears. My oldest is a beautiful red headed freckle faced lil girl, she is also a mermaid. She loves the water and the sunlight more than anything and is more prone to skin cancer than any of us. It makes me worry and when I find it getting outta control I step back and think about what I can do to prevent it, take those steps, and then visualize myself squashing that fear. It may sounds silly but it’s an exercise I find helpful.

-Invest in a good quality multivitamin

Getting nutrients from whole, natural foods is the most ideal but a multivitamin will help fill in the inevitable gaps. I have come to trust Mary Ruth organic multivitamins. My kids love them and it’s a brand I feel confident in. They are made with organic, non GMO ingredients. Made in a GMP facility without gelatin, dairy, nut, gluten, wheat, soy, nightshade and sugar. The most important thing is to find one that you and your kids won’t mind taking. Mary Ruth organic gummies taste amazing, the kids fav is the strawberry, papaya, and super punch flavors.

-Make social connections
We are social creatures and some of us have realized the magnitude of this while being quarantined. It is natural for humans to crave social interacts and relationships. Whether it is through physical contact, over the phone, or computer making the time and effort to connect with others can boost your spirit and your health. I recently read an article on PubMed about life span and emotional support systems. I was interested to read that most of the impact of supportive relationships appears to be a direct result of projected security about the future. Feeling that you have someone who would care for you if sick appears to increase the sense of security about surviving future health crises, thereby increasing one’s perceived inventory of the essential property, life itself. I would LOVE to hear your favorite ways to stay healthy; physically and emotionally! Please share in the comments and we can all get better together.
